A poem about cats and their fascination with the toilet.

Cat in Attitude of Prayer

My cat, whiskers twitching,

expression quite sublime,

must find the flushing of the toilet

an act bordering on divine.

For perching on the rim,

he watches the water swirling ‘round

in a tide pool of wisdom,

of universal truths profound.

With an air of supplication,

          his little ears alert,

he cocks his head and listens

as if to some ethereal concert.

Yet if he finds spiritual consolation,

far be it from me to think it odd,

that within the cold, white impersonal porcelain

a cat sees the face of God.
