Mushed Strawberry Revenge (The Ogress Chronicles, Part IV)

This is a double helping, Charlie...two poems, two reviews...and some truth mixed in to boot...

 Mushed Strawberry Revenge

The youngest Ogress heard a chortle
and turned…quick as a “Texas Tornado”
to see who was laughing at her.

Her eyes filled with tears
as she caught her fill
of the retreating backs of her ogre siblings…

Oh, the pain it would have caused
the youngest Ogress to have heard
t
he harsh remarks and the chortles of glee
that came from the window that day she baked…

For her soul was as tender as strawberries

Ripe ones

                  Being Mushed
                  for making jam

Resolutely,
she dried her eyes.
She had made a vow not to cry.
            (No matter…
            the drought it would cause
            in the world far below…)

She smiled….
Gazing out upon the view
as she began “Throwing in Imagination”
as she decided what to do.
(She hadn’t vowed to not seek revenge, after all…
            And those strawberries
had taken just about enough mushing!)

She sniggered her own 4 and 12 hee, hee’s
as she came up with a “wonderful image…”
            A “darned good” idea,
if she did say so herself,
to teach them about acting kindly.
(She didn’t quite realize that by retaliating,
            SHE was the one
            that wasn’t acting kindly…)

She went back to her kitchen
to throw together her concoction
(From the “Mashed Potatoes in a Gravy Sky” cookbook)

She would use her 2 foot 19 inch frypan
“And[a] Turner”
            (the pancake variety...)
to cook her little lesson with.

And when she was done…
she would have
“A nice dainty dish to set before the queen”

            (or in this case…
            The ogress’s siblings…)

Finally her meal was complete.
(She knew it was one “to savor”!)
She dressed the table with care
and turned the lights low
for the perfect ambiance, you know…
(Don’t think too kindly of her yet…
She turned those lights down low
so they wouldn’t see the food and yell, “NO!”)

The ogre siblings each came in
and with guilty looks
they took their places,

            (They didn’t suspect a thing…
Who would, from a mushed up strawberry?)
as they gazed with delight
on the bowl piled high
with mashed potatoes and gravy.

The Ogress…
                Oh, that princessy ogress…
She just smiled at them--
and began dishing out
what they had deserved all those years…
            Parsnips…
             with banana pudding for gravy!

And for dessert,
you guessed it…
she served…
            Mushed up strawberries in jam

You can bet that the next time
she turned lights down on low
and hinted about strawberry jam
those siblings of hers thought…
“hmmm…is there something going on,
I can see a plot, From gravy to grave…
i won’t be over for dinner…”

Ooooo... the interchanges here between you make me long for a sister... especially one who is as creative and full of inspired imagination as you, Chryssa! At least I would have grown up with a soulmate and an ally to get back at my three older brothers who teased me mercilessly and threw me into cow troughs or locked me in attics with the rats for hours! Your skill and artistic abilities remind me of the gals in Little Women. Amy and Jo I'm thinkin... Meg would have been too sensible and Beth to fragile and sweet... Now look where your strawberry mush has taken me! Tis all delicious, anyhow... :)) Kate xx

But my tummy is giggly... that really was a nasty meal!-- poor siblings! Two reviews, and a good story comes out of it. I'm thinking Karen Vidra's comment on "Throwing in Imagination", 4/12 and Andy Turner's on 2/19 from "Mashed Potatoes in a Gravy Sky".

Good, smooth hiding, Sister. Let's see if they get-back at her... --Charlie

Mushed strawberries? are you nuts? ripe, red ones, full of sweet bouquet crowned with whipped cream (not from a sprycan)and you will have me eating from your hand...and the Ogress? who cares?

You have some imagination but make sure the pits are removed from the mushed up strawberries.
