In this life, I seek no fortune, fame, might or power.
I yearn to make a lasting mark, before my final hour;
To realize my secret destiny, before the sands of time,
Filter through the hourglass, like worthless bits of grime.
Although I'm born a simple man, with skills and talents few,
There beats within my aching chest, a heart that's kind and true .
And in my head, there is a call, to grow bloom and flower.
Ambition is my driving force; I won't quell or cower.
I need a goal, a cause, a plan, something for which to aim,
I know this life has meaning, and to me it is quite plain.
Some folk have sought to limit me, and squeeze me in a box,
To dance to any other tune. I 'm deaf to all their knocks.
If I listened to the critics and those that seek to judge;
Potential I would never find and life would be a drudge.
Unlike the tortured bonsai tree so stunted in its pot,
I’ll emulate the mighty oak and show them what I’ve got.
And as I journey on my way, I’ll keep my goal in sight,
To leave a lasting legacy for others in their fight.
And, when I lose the final race against the ticking clock,
Then at my earthly resting place please write upon my rock;
“He loved to dream and find truth. He never lost the quest,
‘Tho trekking many roads in life, he always gave his best!"
