who knows the slowly emerging scent of deception
more painfully than my heart; victim of deprivation?
on the table of soul’s sustenance I served my love
you supped ‘til you were sated then shared your
body and heart to many others, surreptitiously

leading me ever onward to the place where fools
live in heartbroken retreat from life joy all love
in the brashness of your deceit my heart limped on
seeking not retribution, only the course of justice
self esteem became a meaningless concept

I chased the shadows to dwell hide my pain
in the cloudless rains my dreams dissolved
into pools of lost hope and despair with no
joy on any horizon so I died wanting the love you stole

t’s that pre-warmed toilet seat
your mate left you.
It’s that basket of fries
your friend didn’t finish.

It doesn’t take much
to make us happy,
if we only make note
of what’s around us,
every day,
regardless of worries,
regardless of lack of
recognition.

In those moments
we can see
the circle of humanity
from death to birth,
yes, and birth to death.
Can we fertilize the ground,
make trees and grass praise us?

The happiness never ends,
so long as we notice,
so long as we care,
so long as we don’t ignore
what little things can do
to our spirits,
lifting us up
and beyond daily routines.

It’s that song
you were thinking about,
comes on the radio,
uplifts your mood,
an irresistible smile
envelopes your lips.

Little things
enlarging the heart.

Yeah, that.

My gosh, such emotional angst caused by deceit is universal. I totally relate to such powerful personal experiences. Such times can and do cause self doubts with the spirit of trust gradually deteriorating.

Exquisite poetry.

I don't know if this is a personal expression are not, but like the others who commented, I find that you have clearly outlined the pain involved when someone you love so intensely, cruelly deceives you and leaves you lost.

We give our love sometimes without reservations only to be slapped in the face. But we plod on hoping the day will come when love is requited instead of stolen.

Deep and very profound, if dark and hurting poem here, Jon. I feel that many of us have felt the sting of the one we love who has "you supped ‘til you were sated then shared your / body and heart to many others, surreptitiously."

Great writing. I felt it throughout my body and soul.

So heart wrenching. So sad that many must live and die brokenhearted. Jon Michael, I wish you would post more often. You write poetry of substance and depth. Impressive work as always.
