Forgive Me if You Can!
Her mommy and daddy were fighting and she could hear their rage.
Sitting quietly reading, very frightened as she turned the page.
What have I done so awful to cause this, for I try hard to be real good.
If I could figure out the reasons, I could fix this, yes I would.
It must have been something dreadful for them to be this mad.
I really didn’t mean to be so naughty or to be that bad.
Maybe if I go to them and tell them how very sorry I am.
They would love each other again & forgive me if they can.
I can hear my mommy crying and I’m scared as I can be.
Oh, why don’t they hear my cries and come to comfort me?
My Daddy says he’s leaving and he will never return.
Oh Daddy, what did I do so bad, I promise I will learn?
Her little world is spiraling and seems to be crashing and burning.
Terror is going to the core of her and inwardly turning.
Blaming herself for all the pain & not knowing what to do.
And how to stop the downward spiral she hasn’t got a clue.
Daddy, please don’t go for mommy and I love you so.
We would be so terrified and lonely if you decide to go.
Please forgive and love me Daddy, I promise I’ll be good.
And I will try much harder, I’d swear it if I could.
