We've all done things that seemed great at the time, but left us with guilt we would never forget. This was mine.

The Day I Made Momma Cry

One day Momma made a cheese pie and put in the fridge.

It was beautifully spread 3 inches high right to the pans ridge.

It was for company that would be there that night.

Safe and sound in the fridge and Momma’s pure heart delight.

All the company arrived and finished dinner just waiting for dessert.

When Momma went to get it, was shocked and started to spurt.

“What happened to my pie? Its only 1 inch high.”

“Cheese pies don’t fall, and she started to cry.”

Oh, if only Momma knew it was too much for me to bear.

To see that yummy cheese pie sitting in the fridge right there.

So I scraped off the two inches that were taunting me so.

Thought she wouldn’t miss it and thought she wouldn’t know.

From that day to this, I feel guilty every time cheese pie is served.

Thinking of poor Momma that day I slipped her a curve.

“Forgive me Momma but I love cheese pie so.”

“And I was hoping and praying that you would never know.”

Bonnie May

tempted like the bee to sorghum, weren't you Bonnie? -- this is amusing -- I'll bet your poor mom was shocked -- cheese pie! -- yum, yum, I can understand the temptation -- walk in the arms of joy -- JMW

Ah, your title promised a kleenex alert so I postponed reading, but this one is really quite different than I expected. I should know by now that your things are surprising. (Don't tell anyone, but I would have raided that cheese pie, too.) I am positive that your wise mom knew what you did, and she smiled, remembering her own childish raids on your grandmother's favorite desserts :-)

I'm sure Momma forgave you, as did my mother when I decided to one day share one of her freshly baked cakes with our dog! But now you've given me a craving for cheesecake.

Hi Bonnie
I'm not quite sure what a cheese pie is, but it sounds yummy and the poem is great. Cheers! Liz

Bonnie,
Awww, memories of childhood. With me it was cookies. Mama kept a box of cookies in our fridge that she saved for our school lunches. I grabbed a handful and ran out to the swings and eat em'. I felt guilty every time I saw Mama making those lunches for us to take to school. I don't know if she ever found out, but "I" knew and that was enough to make me feel bad. Excellent write, Bonnie!

Blessings and love,
~Linda

Oh Bonnie, this is such a hoot. You know my Grandmother used to make canolli's to serve to guests. I never liked them, only the cream filling inside and with a miniature spoon used to scoop the filling out and eat it. She always knew who to come after when there was nothing left but the shells...

Be always safe,
Karen

I love it and iy was just the kind of things kids do. I would let it go if I were you Bonnie because it was probably a favorite story your mother loved to tell, at least I would have as a parent.
