What a lovely spiritual lady, one I will never forget. This is for you Grandma

For God’s Ears

“Grandma, I can do that, I’m bigger than you think.”

“Okay, my little spitfire, start with the dishes in the sink.”

“There’s plenty of time for you to iron, after you have learned.”

“You’re much too young now and you’ll get badly burned.”

As I was doing the dishes, my eyes never left that ironing board.

It looked like a blast gliding that iron over clothes & my spirits soared.

I was dressed in shorts and a little tank top, for it was hot that day.

I begged and pleaded with my Grandma to let me have my way.

She was very unyielding and wasn’t about to change her mind.

She was such a dear sweet soul, Godly and extremely kind.

But when she said no she meant no, so I had to use my head.

I’d wait for her to turn her back, so I could iron in her stead.

I found a little wrinkled hanky when Grandma turned her back.

Took one swipe with the iron and on my exposed tummy left its track.

A three inch burn was welting and the sting was very sharp & strong.

That’s when I saw my Grandma’s face, and knew that I’d done wrong.

Her eyes held such disappointment and her expression said it all.

But she must have took it easy on me ‘cause I was hurt and small.

She knew this wouldn’t be the last time that I’d get burned in life.

For I had an unbridled obstinate streak, and headed for lots of strife.

Grandma gently applied some ointment and put a big patch over the burn.

And sadly looked at me as if to say something but then she suddenly turned.

I felt so dreadful on that unpleasant day because I knew I let her down.

She was the one who taught me about Jesus and his Heavenly Crown.

She never said a word to me, maybe because there was nothing left to say.

Grandma was saving it for God’s ears when she knelt down to pray.

Oh, if I only would have told Grandma and if she only knew.

That my obstinate streak died that day as my love for her grew.

A wonderful tribute to your Grandma...sometimes words don't teach a lesson as well as dealing with the natural consequences...

Sometimes you will have children that were loved only by their Grandmother, that put an indelible love "scar" in your soul.
