Rowdy Nights
Rowdy nights and spinning stars
You wake up wondering where you are
The night before a vague and distant dream.
You turn and see a stranger’s room
Is not your own familiar gloom.
The window frames a painful sunlit stream
And opens up the gates of thought,
Remembering what you’d rather not,
You worked so hard last night to set it free.
You did it again.
You fell down again.
Wasn’t it only yesterday
You promised yourself you were ready to pay
The join life, good life, feel right union dues.
But here you are in a stranger’s bed
So wasted in your heart and head
Your throbbing temples drumming you the blues.
And now you know down to your toes
You’re the cause and the cure of all these woes.
Suddenly forgotten dreams come shining through.
You’ll do it again.
You’ll get up again.
Tomorrows take a skillfull bend
Enough of them and today’s your friend.
The yesterdays add up to help you learn.
The time has come for you to anty up and earn
The right to forgive yourself and step into the light
The stars are bright but you won’t close your eyes.
You’ll do it again.
Put the stars back in the sky again.
You’ll do it again.
