Poem Artwork

Time has chased me away
From the men that brought life
Into my skin
My tracks have taken me to
Men that slack
And Lord know it’s not all
Of them

Time has laid her in my path
So far from my mind
Of what I asked
So big is her heart
Deep in her soil
It feels like home
Everything I had asked

And momma don’t understand him
He said to me he loved my skin
He writes poetry
Worshiping my every inch

And momma don’t understand her
She builds character in me
And gives me reason
To be and sow

But how, why can I love
This man
From different plans

And how can I love
This woman
So different in my hands

(Background of master’s hands
Played out and the pain shouts
Betrayer)

He doesn’t care of stares
And family cries

She doesn’t hold me back
She pushes me to strive

He said he saw in my eyes
All he will ever need
Drop his all and everything
To watch me breath

She said she saw in my eyes
All she wanted and needed
Lost so far beyond treason
O fulfill my every need

He says lets build a new
Generations
That’s how my love
Is for you

She said lets create a new
Eden
That’s how my love
Is for you

We both turn to fly but neither can’t get high
His heart brings me back down
Her heart cries aloud
Tell me now
(Our eyes shout
Our heart pumps)
That this is not good to you,
For you
and we sink so low
That we became shadows of
The colour blu
Stars are full and shinning bright
within us a hunger for a love
That seems so right
Devastation
Casuistry in what
Is natural of nature
Got us asking……
What am I suppose to do?

*Lord my ties are buried too deep
and I pray my soul to keep
this man for some reason brings
my joys and everything

*Dear God I know what my heart seek
and I pray my soul to keep
this woman for all reason bring
my joys and everything

but her heart hurts too deep
at the past how our did fathers meet

but I just don’t know of his thoughts
and his up bring, misconception that were taught

(locked in souls range
locked in internal debate
locked in a reality embrace
we walk away~~~~~~~)

my choice comes from a consciousness
steep in His hands, to rise-up my blood clan
and with him, he will take
my love as keep sake

my choice comes from a consciousness
deep within, can’t hide the struggles from our children (to be)
and with her, she will take
my love as keep sake

Forgive me father for I know not
How to choose
Maybe I’ll see you
next lifetime……………………………….

Opposites attract. Part of our genetic design to make us stronger. Fear fights it.

Why should anyone ever have to be tormented over love? Shouldn't be, for any reason. Your ability to paint the pain so vividly that anyone who reads this has to feel it will surely open some hearts. Beautiful job.

As usual, Mitzi, you have a provocative, strong write here. Interestingly, while people say this subject matter is unimportant to them, I posted a comical piece that was based in truth poking fun at a friend of mine who happened to be white. That was teh most minor piece of the story and at the tale end. Hardly the reason for our not being together as anyone who read both the piece and the associated poem should've realized. Nevertheless, readers who read the piece, called "Timing's A Bitch" focused on the "interracial" nature of the relationship. So while people try their best to say this is a nonissue to them, it still nags at them on levels they just don't recognize.

In the poem, "My Friend Delaney," race was glossed over

In the piece, "Timing's A Bitch," race was mentioned almost as an after thought, but some of the comments narrowed to the racial factor, which I thought was a very minor part of the tale. :-)

This is a powerful and impactive write, Mitzi. I love these lines:
"and we sink so low
That we became shadows of
The colour blu"
Making choices is often more than difficult and weighing the benefits of the choice even moreso. I guess the important thing is to make a choice and embrace it. Excellent write!
Take care,
Sherry

Mitzi,

Love knows no colors, I always say. :) That's all that matters, that you love each other. :)

My oldest sister married a black man. Oooooh, boy, THAT went over well with my prejudiced family; NOT! It didn't bother me. Unfortunately, the marriage did not work out--he was an abusive creep. Not because of his skin color--it was just his way. There are white creeps, black creeps, red and brown creeps...ya know? :)

Excellent, thought provoking, courageous, strong, emotional write--perfection! A keeper (you are getting lots of space in my library).

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

I wouldn't go so far as to call what you have written brave, but it is a stomping the hell out of the usual rot we see and read concerning this subject. I was born in a time and in a place where the races did not mix, except on moonless nights and furtive trysts. I grew up prejudiced and I grew out of the same. There was a while there that I thought Dr. King's hope would be fulfilled. Not to be. Not all of it anyway. We still have hate and mistrust between the races. If anything it seems to be getting worse. I blame a lot of people and partly the news media and take just about everybody to task on this. Yes, there are success and love stories out there but there are NOT enough. We, they, them and us are being programed on a day-by-day basis to mistrust our fellow man and it just did not have to be this way. And THAT, dear Mitzi, is a shame.

Amazing, brave write about a constantly changing issue that most of us who lived through the sixties thought would end obviously it is still coming between life long loves with the predjudices of the world still putting up walls between hearts and souls. Mitzi you gave a great voice of passion yet reason in this write.

Love can be the best thing that has ever happened to us, and, very sadly, it can also be the most painful thing that has ever happened to us - and I truly wonder how many love affairs have ended the way your powerful last stanza does.

Talk about a swim in deep waters! This one definitely takes us there. A very bold exploration of a form of intimacy that is simultaneously lusciously personal and painfully public. A great piece.

mitzi, this is excellent, as your poetry alway is and the questions asked are painful and real...love just doesn't treat us right most times, its too hard and too painful to be as much fun as people claim it is
