I picked up the newspaper last night
And there was only good news
There were birth announcements and weddings
No murders
No meth labs busted
No crooked politicians exposed
I went for a walk
Through a ‘rough’ part of town
And felt safe
I saw children of all colors playing together
Teenagers cleaning their neighborhood
With the help of the ones
From the other side
Of town
I saw older women helping young ones
Learn
The art of motherhood
Without
Criticism and disdain
I stopped for a bite to eat
And saw no hungry faces outside
Looking in
I felt love, peace and understanding
Everywhere I looked
But
As with all dreams
I woke up

Wow Sue, this is excellent! I wish your dream had been the reality of this world....very powerful poem.
If only, eh? -- and there were the war correspondants, their khakis gone UPS brown with teardrops as they waited in line for cheese. I would love to see Stone Phillips in the midst of such a dream -- he'd surely be kicking the covers and screaming ;)
