I walk down the silent street
Chuckling to myself at the inanities
I encounter in just this short walk
There’s a couple fighting, he pulls away
She holds on, don’t’ they see the fight
Is a way of doing both, otherwise there
Would be nothing to fight about
A little girl peeks from behind a fence
Peering at me until I make eye contact
And smile, and she runs away shrieking
Another stranger to be frightened of I guess
A store manager chases a group of kids from his door
All they wanted was to buy some candy
How can he do business if he chases away the small
Customers, aren’t they after all his future buyers
A car passes, the man at the wheel peering out
Looking for excitement, but quickly looking away
When he encounters a lady of the night
Two blocks and these contradictions strike me
How many more do we find in our everyday life
Would life be better if we we consistent
Or only boring
