Pillow Talk

Pillows lay upon the bed
Muffled sounds of what is said
Words whispered between two
Lovers awaiting the morning dew
A night of revelry but a memory
Of movements defined by symmetry

Once creased sheets now stained
By tears of a lover’s refrain
Vow to love forever more
Without quarrels and keeping score
But something happened along the way
To transform two lovers on this day

Words lose meaning over the years
Silenced by banal thoughts unclear
Pillows begin to separate
Two people who now equivocate
On love’s meaning for each
A common bond beyond their reach

Pillows since packed in a box
Love forever a paradox
Words once whispered between two
Now epithets and venom spewed
Why a simple pillow should define
Love’s changes over time

I get sad when I think about the transient nature of life but this can also be applied to the transient nature of love. Eloquently captured in this well written poem. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing the fickle ways of the human heart!
In moments we can go from one mood to another.
Excellent poem beautifully written!Sad truths...
