Deep below the living reside the dead in the Catacombes of Paris. Click either the image above or the link underneath the poem.

Par Isis

City of Isis awaken to a brand new day
Slowly releasing your dreams of the night
As the bright morning star casts a last ray
Over your skyline that will soon subside
In showers of light of the unveiling sun
And your loveliness will become undone

From the temple of St. Germain des Pre
Where many centuries ago you came to be
To l’Arc de Triomphe at the Champs Elysees
Pointing at Dendera where Isis used to see
The ships sail up and down the river Nile
Your magic is in your architectural style

Your Quartier Latin and tall Tour d’Eiffel
Mont Martre, La Defense and Notre Dame
Famous landmarks the world knows well
Par Isis means near Isis, your real name
Designed by kings who succeeded Gods
You were divinely intended by all odds

As I roam your allees and boulevards
Eagerly breathing in your atmosphere
Of the old ateliers, magasins and bars
I wordlessly wish that you were here
To walk beside me in this city of bliss
And ridicule the mindless parti pris

Your Catacombes that hide secrets
Within its walls of skulls and bones
Amid lingers of agony and regrets
Accrueing into riveting undertones
Beneath your beauty and mystique
Faint rumors, so bizarre and oblique

And while your citizen’s sleepy eyes
Twinkle to the gleam of the rising sun
And echoes of yawns rise to the skies
I will go to sleep after my work is done
To dream splendorous dreams of you
As you make up for a day brand new

With no small amount of literary dexterity, you skillfully peel back the layered membrane of glamour and civility that covers Paris with seductive legend. It's much easier to embrace the city's glittery mystique--as I have probably done from afar all my adult life--than it is to acknowledge its mystical and misery-burdened past. Thanks for the view from your gifted pen.

Exciting knowledge for me and the rest of us I'm sure. I am inspired by your ease and acute eye. You look at beauty, research the underlines and in-between then you give us a view that is always a different slant than the norm. Your poetry is an artist view unlike any.
I appreciate you Rage!

Ah, yes indeed, the catacombes do indeed hold many varied and long-kept secrets. The famous and infamous reside there and I think people have become fearful of disturbing them. Good write.

Rage
You enlighten us once again with another startling discovery of monumental proportions, something this reader was not aware of, and it makes you wonder what other mysteries and enigmas are hidden from the eyes of men in this world.
The only comparable one I can think of is the Lore of Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, which is steeped in the arcne traditions of the Knights Templar and the Holy Bloodline of Jesus Christ ( St Clair or Sinclair ) http://www.templarhistory.com/mysteriesrosslyn.html
A man's history is not fully known until he dies, then and only then, can we evaluate that man or woman's legacy in the eyes of God and the World , i.e. that is whether he or she was endowed with the Grace of God....:)
Thank you my friend
Peter
