The outpouring of affection and admiration for Michael Jackson proves that rumor and innuendo aside. he gave us an incomparable gift, and he did it
with generosity and flair. Because of him, Motown broke down and began showcasing the music of African-Americans. Countless children said, If he can do it, I can. Whatever Michael did -- or did not do -- in his personal life, he was a great artist and performer. Still, I weep for that little boy. None of us can know what it is like to be someone else, can we. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that. Peace and Love, Forever More. . .and let there be Music! Pea

I can't stop seeing you dance for the first time
into our hearts. What a darling little boy!
Your talent is thunderous, your energy.
heat lightning illuminating the horizons
of mind and soul. We can see you love
to perform. Just don't let it steal
your right to be a child. You sing
and dance like a dream. May the dream
be a buoy you can let go of without
getting pulled under. May the Powers
that Be -- Management, The Public,
Mantises that Prey -- never turn dream
into nightmare. We pray you find a way
to live the dream and have a full and
healthy life outside of it. Fame and
Fortune will be yours, no question.
Caution: they are going to floor you
with gifts. Fan you and feed you honey
and fly you to exotic places and embroider
fabulous lies on silk and satin pillows
that feel like heaven. Two F's have their
upside, but Friends and Family -- those
who are as advertised -- are the ones
who will guard your back. And you can
count on Faith. There are gifts, and
there are gifts. You give your all:
your tantalizing talent, your electrifying
persona, your developing body. Every
jot and tittle, every muscle, vein, and
nerve. If only there were a cloak that
we could send you that would protect
you from gougers and hangers-on. Long-
term effects of growing up in the face
of Prejudice and Envy. Ogres such as
Fear of Failure. Careful: glitter is
pretty, but it tends to come unglued..
God, but you can dance, child.
Break a leg, little one, break a leg!

Reviews of "Oh, Michael {Remembering Little Michael of the Jackson 5}"
Like smiling one night at a colorful rose bud then waking up the next day to find it opened, glittering, and exploding beauty all over the place. That's what comes to me when I think of the young Michael Jackson in contrast to the adult artist and philanthropist Michael Jackson, and that's the wonder I feel as my appreciation moonwalks through these lines by Phyllis Jean Greeen.
Great tribute, Pea. Michael was more than a great talent, he was a musical genious, a master of performance, and a bridge to join black and white for ever. He was also a victim. We is sorely missed.
This is a very lucid poem and it's the truth. It's timely, of course, and the best comment I've seen (or rather read) so far.
Thanks also for the poem on your bio-page. It's encouraging and it's to the point.
thank you for this tribute, Pea...I can't think of the phrasing in English, but the old saying comes to mind: Those whom the gods envy they take away early (at a early age)...
At any rate, once again it seems the wrong medical advice killed...but that notwithstanding, Michael was a genius and his impact on the musical world great... how shocking to lose him.
This is a very beautiful tribute.I enjoy reading it.His legacy and music will live on forever in our hearts because we will keep it alive with our love for what he has done for the music business. He was amazing.take care
I was sickened by the news coverage from the past shown by the networks the day his family was grieving. What happened to common decency? People are blogging like they knew him, adding their ugliness to the mix. Thank you for taking the high road, P. This is beautifully written, from a huge, loving heart...Lin
Phyllis Jean, your tribute to the king of pop is compassionate -- although I was not a Michael fan, I admire what he accomplished as an entertainer -- it is sad for the millions of his fans world wide that he passed away so relatively young -- another person whose destiny was ultimately shaped by phenomenal popularity and acclaim --peace and love -- Jon Michael
Undone by the beauty, the compassion in these lines - this little boy was forced to grow up before he could be a child. Any wonder, then, that he liked to be surrounded by childish dreams - may Michael, the boy, the man, find the peace he never found on Earth. Well done.
