On our porch he holds our daughter on his lap as she gazes out the window at the setting sun. She looks up at his face their eyes, so alike meet for only a moment I pray that in his daughter’s eyes he might discover something familiar a spark of life of love. But he only smiles and looks away out the window towards the battlefields he’ll never see again but never truly leave.
