Down to the sea in ships, all gone wrong...Inspired the Gene Williamson article on his book, "War on the Chesapeake," and the Ed Matlack short story, "Triangular Disappearance..."

By virtue of a royal majesty,
Manifestly, splendid at birth,
Granted captains of the sea,
Two vessels of kingly worth!

Nightly, we dropped anchor,
Down towards sleep we fell,
A crow’s nest kept watches,
Avast! To a peril, we befell!

Pirates attacked our ships,
With cruel swords and gun,
Begged we for dear mercy,
Nay, they showed us none!

Sacks filled they with booty,
Our galley-wench they took,
Alas! Felled, her secret love,
Twas a ship’s ill-fated cook!

Convinced of certain death,
Lemmings, leapt out to sea,
Over the rail into the ocean,
With dread, at last be free!

Left to flounder living dead,
Crafts malevolently burned,
Nearly, we almost drowned,
Lesson too late we learned!

Moonlight’s loathsome sight,
Bobbing shark's bait welted,
Leg, arms, torsos floated by,
Like salted slugs we melted!

Spewed from death’s mouth,
Bruised, battered, yet living,
Washed up on a sandy shore,
Celebrated we Thanksgiving!

On travel-wearied tired feet,
Over Indian land we strode,
Under starry sky we prayed,
For a calf’s humble abode!

Daybreak's tempests flared,
Sadistic storms that brewed,
Electricity flashed in the sky,
Heaven’s lightning askewed!

Labyrinth terror from Hades,
Lost pilgrims far from home,
Without a friend in the world,
Odd lands we walked alone!

A literary trip spanning a wide enclosure of rebel thoughts from royal majesty of sailors to end talking about the brother of Zeus.
In the meantime, our crafts will be malevolently burned and we will find ourselves spewed from death's mouth.
You have written a roller-coast with more twisting than a corkscrew.

Great skill and discipline in the telling of this tale, Rockie.
In the loneliness, the separation, I imagine such a voyage today
to worlds unknown in the blackness of space. Well done. -gene.

A previous life' herein described,
Maybe found on a remote islands rock transcribed,
Or is it from an over-active imagination,
After a night of pirates rum overly imbibed...;-) ed
