What happens when the muse doesn't stop whispering in your ear?

Words march across the pages toward oblivion
Ending in compost piles

They’ve been doing this for decades
With an energy that seems endless
Waking him at odd hours
Prodding him to write
Driving him down

Virtual freeways
at a hundred and ten

 Of course
That isn’t where
The words sprouted.

That started as a kid on the floor
Of a smoke filled room
With Steve Allen
and Lucy
Setting off cans of laughter
From the black
& white tube

With endless books
His imagination flourished
Growing flowers and weeds
In the mind’s clay and sand

Evenings arrived where washing dishes
Replaced old friends fighting battles
In the Civil War
Dancing with Napoleon
Or seeking dragons across
Green, flowering plains
Scattered with burnt castles

The boy flew across an ocean
To become a man
Hunting with a blade
In one hand
a grenade in the other

artillery shook the earth
Sending strobe like flashes across
a bizarre
Mosquito infested
Nightmarish landscape
That plugged in
Like an unwanted shadow

Back home
The aging child
Wrote about a gutsy guy
Who grew grapes on a distant planet
and fermented rare,
Magical, expensive wines
Which seemed to be a fitting
Introduction to years as a maitre’ d
In a sweaty
Multi-million dollar
Passion filled
Human
Meat-market
Where all innocence
Expired

Those years are growing thin
But some things never change
as he sits and listen to sirens

Since this child refuses to leave
god’s garden
There are still days where
He’s up at two in the morning
Writing poetry and prose
In the still, cold air

I wrote of my muse too as a chatterbox and not giving me PEACE OF MIND, or hand/lol
but then I am so GRATEFUL!
This poem is written from a grateful angel!
Growing flowers and weeds
In the mind’s clay and sand --- LOVE THIS!
so true, as our seeds begin planting in others hearts and minds!
WE hope to find...
WRITE when and where you are inspired, as YOU Know - I do the same! and I wouldn't have it any other way, my boyfr. may not understand, but he's comin' around! That makes me feel GRATEFUL, as our muse runs amok!
WRITE ON!
Warmest of Love and Blessings, Warrior Purple Lady SHEExooo

Glad you're still listening for the "winged messangers," Lloyd! Don't know why they prefer the middle of the night for communication, but, damn, they do. :)

Excellent work, Lloyd. A skilled pen is evident here, from the descriptions that are so vivid and relatable, to the form itself that moves well, the best i have read on here so far tonight. happy new year- michelle
