Foster home to foster home
I never had a chance
No body much ever gave me
Anything but a glance
Slaps across the face
Not much food to eat
I just hang my head down
And accept defeat

I was never wanted
Just a problem child
No structure in my life
Most think I'm just wild
No one took the time
To care about me
My mama ran away
When I was only three

Passed around my whole life
Now I'm a teen
Ain't much in this world
I haven't seen
I've had to be tough
In order to survive
Fight my own battles
Just to stay alive

If one person had given me
A tiny ray of hope
If someone had cared enough
To throw me that rope
Who knows what
I could have become
Instead of being
A teenage bum

Foster home to foster home
I never had a chance
No body much ever gave me
Anything but a glance

Yours is a moving account of a discounted adolescence. It grieves and aggravates with its merciful vision of merciless indifference. A truly penetrating look at the gift that never starts giving, and I know in saying that I risk sounding like a dismissively glib slogan. I only hope and pray that someday, someone finds it in their heart to be there, always there, for those who have been shunted aside so callously like the subject of your poem. Thank you very much for sharing. I'm glad I found you, better late than never.

You know Linda, this extremely powerful timeless write just ripped through my soul!!!… It belongs on the desk of every Foster Child Center, and before any child can released to an Adult, it must be read out loud, and then signed right in front of the child!!!… Incredible Poet!!!

So sad when nobody wants to give deserving kids a chance at life, a home, or a family! That is one reason why I write so much about adoption!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears <

Powerful, sobering slice of reality for far too many kids! Well done!

This is so true and sad....that human beings are so cruel and unkind to one another...we each of us have a special responsibility and obligation , given by God , to care and look out for our neighbour , whomsoever that may be , especially liked Tami's comments below and message on this enduring problem .

Totally true about most foster kids and one bad problem is when they reach adult age they are just release with no help. This is a terrible problem we have in our society for sure.
Excellent message here

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

This quote is framed and sits on my mantle at home and hangs on the wall in my office. If only I can make a difference to one child, it will have mattered.

This is a painful write that speaks so much truth. Thanks for all you do, Linda. It matters.
Hugs!

A sad but well written poem that spells out a message that many teenagers face today when everybody is working and not caring for those they brought into this world.
