All we see are stars and stripes
But it represents so much more....
If our American flag could speak
Is this what it would say....

A dark and humid morning
A soldier kneels and prays
He dreams of family and home
As he counts the days
He don't hear the gunfire
As the bullet finds its place
He's left hurt and bleeding
Disbelief etched on his face
With pride I stand and wave
Amist war and crimson stains
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain
******************************
I'm the red white and blue
But there is so much more to see
Blood, tears and a soldiers screams
Are sown inside of me
With every stitch of the needle
Another prayer is said
As the war rages on and on
Another soldier is dead
I wave with pride and glory
As the world goes insane
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain
*******************************
A soldier's mother weeps in anquish
Clutching a picture of her son
Nothing can ever bring him back
When all is said and done
I hear the cries of the forgotten
Tears America can't see
A soldier holding his dying friend
No bitter taste of victory
A child weeps over her fathers grave
Standing in the pouring rain
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain...
A work of Excellence! Currently, we have two nephews serving.. one is a Navy Seal, and the other an Air Force Fire Inspector. Both would be honored to read these words. Both have served in war; both have re-upped twice; both have seen more suffering and death by the age of 30 than most at thrice their age.
The LORD has given you a very special Gift, Linda, which you use expertly for the sake of others. GOD Bless You!
Linda, this poem makes me cry, I remember my fellow soilders in Vietnam so many of them did not make it home! I am blest to be here to read your poem. It is awesome, you do yourself an injustice by not writing a book, God has your back and we all will support you here on Authorsden. Peace!!!
I knew the twins would love this as they read it. I do too. I will forever salute those that fight for our freedom but I will always forever look for a way to create peace for all of us and remove the need for war.
The horror of war in a nutshell. It's worse for mothers, lovers, and children. They said my uncle George was crazy because he was, “shellshocked,” in World War I. The fact is that he was a medic and served in a military hospital in Georgia during the war, tending to the wounded and dying coming back from the trenches in Europe.
Wow! A well written poem that demands pause and reflection. Mom's pain for her loss is truly unthinkable and unimaginable. You have captured this thought very well.
I pray for peace in this land.
May you have peace, love and blessings that only the Lord can provide.
Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.
Married ten years, and more in love than ever, Robert and Marcie have everything to live for. But a terrible secret is breaking Robert's heart: he knows that Marcie is about to die...
