I saw him sitting all alone Head in his hands A haunted look about him, like No one understands I wanted to walk up to him Let him know I care But like everyone else I just kept sitting there I didn't know his name And he didn't know me But the sadness reflected In his eyes hurt deeply I never knew where he lived Or anything of his life Never knew if he had children Or a loving wife Just knew he was sitting In this diner all alone A shadow hanging over him Happiness gone I wanted to reach out Tell him not to cry But all I saw was deep Pain reflected in his eyes Hurting for the life he Lost long ago I wondered about it But no way to know So much hustle-bustle People hurrying by Never noticing the silent man A tear in his eye He seemed so desolate Staring in his coffee cup I wanted so much to tell him Not to give up I wanted to reach out to him Gently hold his hand I noticed he kept fingering His golden wedding band Tears fell in his coffee Pain deep in his soul Despair clouds his mind As memories unfold I walked up to his table Pulled up a chair Just wanted him to know Someone was there Surprise in his face As I touched his hand I'd never seen such deep pain in any man He held on to me as his battles Raged on Somewhere inside he knew He wasn't alone No words were spoken But he felt me there Someone to offer a rope Someone to care. Holding on for dear life He clung to my hand In silence we sit there Me and this man I never knew his name Nor the place he abides But I can never forget The pain in his eyes... � Linda Hill 2002 Revised Repost
