Darkness Prevails

Poem Artwork

Shadows linger in the
Corner of the room
He sits just knowing
He's met his doom
Tomorrow at seven
He takes his last walk
The fear in his gut
Makes it hard to talk
The bars are so cold
As he touches the steel
No one on earth knows
How he feels
His hours are numbered
They are slipping away
What he would give
For just one more day
Darkness prevails
Taking over his soul
His body is numb
His heart is cold

****************************

He knows he's done wrong
That he must pay
And eye for an eye
Are so they say
In his last hours
He feels so alone
The harm he's done
He can't condone
Fear in his heart
Hell's his eternity
He sits in stone silence
No one can see
Demons haunt him when he
Closes his eyes
The same ones that told him
To start taking lives
Darkness prevails
Taking over his soul
His body is numb
His heart is cold.

A hard, cold, dark beauty of a write, Linda. The artistry is very appreciated, though I shudder with the message.

Wonderfully stark and hard as rebar re-inforced concrete! And the sadness that permeates the piece is thick enough to touch! Terrific write, Linda!
