When I Take My Last Breath

Poem Artwork

When I close my eyes and I
Take my last breath
When the angels gather 'round me
And I succumb to death
Will I be remembered for the
Good things I have done
When my day's are finally over
And the race I have won

Will people think of me
Or will they fade away
Will they be steadfast friends
Who remembered yesterday
What will I leave them
For wealth I did not obtain
Would they accept my undying love
Cherish it just the same

Will they hold me in honor
Deep in their heart
Knowing that somehow we'll
Never be apart
Will they still read my poetry
That is my legacy
Every word you read is the
Heart and soul of me

Will they remember the time's
I reached out my hand
Pulled them out of the cold
Helped them to stand
Will they think of me
When the cold winds blow
When there's nothing over me
But the glistening snow

Will they bring me flowers
To brighten up my grave
Will they sing me hymns of joy
Verses of Jesus Saves
Will they be just fly by night
Let my memory slip away
Or will they keep me alive
In the things they do and say

While we all might hope to leave a legacy behind, when we're gone, it doesn't much matter. What matters is that we live in the here and now - making differences in the lives of those we touch every, single day. I have no doubt that you will be remembered for the living angel you are, Linda.

Hugs,
Tami
