Like a falling star…
She plummeted downward
Tumbling through the universe,
Her fragile grip on reality
Nearly destroyed by his betrayal!
Struggling in the tumultuous vortex
Her life had overnight become,
Reason held no significance!
Cold and callous was his heart, as
Brandishing a sword of indifference
He spinelessly ignored her plight!
All to her seemed lost, until
Nearing the bottom of the dark pit
Where hopelessness awaited
She saw a faintly glimmering light.
Soon brilliant cascades in dazzling hues
Began to lift her near lifeless spirit!
And she saw them, reaching out to her…
In her sadness she’d nearly lost sight
Of the only things in life that mattered!
Their love unconditional, fathomless
Her children were her life!
They’d always been her life!
And she knew she’d rise again
Above the pain of infidelity…
Taking her rightful place
As a woman and a mother!

I do know- children are a lifeline.

I admire the writer's skill that shaped this marvelous
poem, line by line, from the plummet to the resolution.

“For those who love and trust and are betrayed, there is no greater pain.”
Betrayal is deadly and it takes a great deal of strength to recover from it - if that is even possible; for I do not believe that it is true that "time heals all wounds" when it comes to betrayal. I do love the hope that is evident in your ending of this poem, Annabel. Thank you for sharing this offering. Love and best wishes,
Regis
Why do men (and women) feel the need to hurt the ones they share their lives with? Many reason, I suppose, but nothing justifies cruelty, either mentally or physically. Still, it happens . . .
I loved the ending to this poem.
