It's only over this past year that I've actually begun to think about my own mortality. I'm not feeling down or saddened about it, I simply realize with every passing moment that eventually (and like everyone else I have no way of knowing when that will be) I will cease to exist, at least as I do right now. I try to live in the moment and cherish every second...with family, friends, pets, etc. I want to be worthy of a place in memories!

Poem Artwork

Fleeting and fickle is time,
For even as it dangles eternity before us
It can terminate our existence faster than a heartbeat!
We spend a lifetime building our future
While chasing dreams that most often elude us
Naively believing time is always on our side.
Too focused on the future, we forget about today
Race quickly away from yesterday
And trip over each other seeking tomorrow!
To the young, a moment can be lifetime,
For the aged, a lifetime is gone in a moment!
Inevitably, no matter where we are in our journey
There's no way of knowing how long we have
Until we reach our final destination!

Annabel, sometimes we are but a breath away from non-existence...but it is up to us to choose how we can live now and how we can show our Creator that we truly wish to be in his plan for paradise in the future. If we have faith and truly believe in his word...then we shall find the keys to unlocking our tomorrows and how to serve him best. Beautiful poem, Annabel...if only more would realize this fragility in our lives, then we could start to live in a way that it counts.

How so very true. We should all be relishing each and every moment with family, friends, and our pets.

Yes we live to die. But how we live is the key matter. Great Write, Annabel.

Why is, it Anna, that the people I would most like to know, sadly, I'll probably never truly meet. And guess what, my friend? You are truly one of those people. Regarding our mortality, now at my age: seventy six, I still look at people that are older, or, as I in no way look even close to my age, I look at these older looking people and feel that I still have time to go. Great poem, Anna. Great words that we all must, at one time or another, if not continuously, seriously ponder.

Anna, your comments in this posting have inspired me to get back to work on a poem I titled BORROWED TIME... I still need to do some fine tuning, but it's much closer to ready thanks to you. I'll be posting it one day in the near future. Thanks for the push. Dick

Yes it is so true. Your words in this one capture well what our age group feel. We watch as more and more friends and relatives pass on and wonder just with a morbif curiosity I guess...when will be our turn. We start thinking not so much about dying but how we will die and hoping against hope that we won't develop Alzheimers or cancer but that wé'll get luck and have a massive heart attack and die in our sleep.
lol Okay I am rambling...
good write Anna

I write quite a lot of poetry concerning time, lack of, or past. Let's face it, Anna, time is ALL we have really. Some, like moi, flitter much of it away, some acquire great wealth. But all wait on THAT day.

This is inspiring, Anna, because as we realize how precious life is, we are inspired to live with more passion, more clarity. The immediacy of that hourglass!
At least we can grow old together.
Blessings, xx
