You are a gift to animals with the amount of love and care that you give. Yes they are unselfish because they do not know evil in the way man does or a feral animal would. Your loss is made no less, Annabel, but know well that your love can still extend to another creature that can certainly benefit from your loving care. Our Creator instilled that faithful soul into those special ones and you can find, not a replacement, but another friend who needs you just as much as you need them.

sorry for your loss--We used to have a cat--after 5 years that cat was more human than we realized--and when he died our house was in grief for a month--sorry I can't be closer to give you a hug but I know the pain that you feel--something a non-pet owner will never understand

This poem bought me to tears. I have a precious little dog named Blackie. I've had him 10 years. I can tell he's not as spry as he used to be, he's getting older. If you've never read "Rainbow Bridge" find it on the computer. It may help you to cope with the loss. My condolences to you.

I have it on high authority that all dogs go to Heaven, and Allie is there now in perfect health and waiting for you. Peace to you, Anna.

Stunning. Who hasn't had an animal that didn't love unconditionally? My Best.

Brought tears to my eyes. Made me think of Jazz and how quickly he died with me helpless to help him.

I hope this poem will help you move on and get back to a life without your true friend. I watched a show on Nova last night about how dogs were domesticated from wolves and how they have such empathy with us and powers that science is just now finding out, like one dog's ability to understand 350 words, as many as two-year-old child.

Let's hope that the puppy is on the way soon.

Oh, Anna, these are life's darkest moments, when one so beloved is taken out of it's hurt and pain. You are mistaken, though. Although none will ever replace your Allie, as none have ever replaced the procession of all those in my lifetime that I've had to and hated saying goodbye to, I have found that it is so easy to have a new best friend and a new love and there are so many there that so need the love of one such as yourself. My heart broke three months ago when my Kody suffered a broken vertebra, became paralyzed and had to be put to sleep. But then, within days, little neglected Mushi came into my life and here I am again, in love again and knowing that I am needed and loved again. So do not wait to long my friend as even now, even at this very moment, there is another dear friend waiting for your care and love.

It's sad to have to say goodbye to them, Anna, believe me I know. I had to do it four years ago. I immediately started looking for another dog. I knew none would replace Baby in my heart, but then I found Zoe. She hasn't replaced Baby, but she has made a space there for herself, and I quite honestly don't know what I would do without her sweet self.

I bent down and scratched her neck on the way out the other morning and said goodbye to her. She seemed so content in her little basket. I think she knew she could count on you to take care of her and put her first, and that's exactly what you did. It's such a big goodbye and I'm so proud of you and the incredible grace you've brought to this saddest of times. I miss that little Dame too. I'm carrying you in my heart.
