What if?

Random thoughts of the day....

                                           WHAT IF?

What if...a baby's born today and lives to be a teen?
What will the future hold for him, what sights will he have seen?
What if...his parents fail to teach the values of our land?
What kind of life can he afford, if he becomes a man?

What if...he knows no law or skill, just disrespect and fight?
What can he do, where will he go; home or the street at night?
What if...a painful, sad remorse, should find him somewhere dead?
What would one give then, yet too late, for one more chance instead?

What if...this land we love so dear continues down the path
Of least resistance and far left, no thought of Godly wrath?
What if...delusion and self-will, the mindset now so strong,
Persuades the masses everywhere that surely there's no wrong?

What if...our foe becomes our friend, yet only to deceive,
And suddenly we find ourselves consumed and in dire need???
What if...a question now so real we must confront head on,
Or else we just may find in fact our freedoms are all gone!
                                         What if...

What if our path of least resistance is far right?
Other than that, you've nailed it! Thanks.

I believe this is a true reflection of what is going on in our society here and more broadly throughout the world. I think it all boils down to your line about the parents fail to teach, I know it is not a for sure thing all the time but if parents teach hate, or how deprived and cheated they have been in this life, need someone to give them everything, you know how the kids will turn out. Some parents don't teach much of anything by way of great example and that also leads to minds full of mush.

I find your rather dismal, negative view of the future to be rather prominent in the elderly community. This is probably the result of medicine prolonging life and the known fact that as we age, we tend to remember the best of the past and forget the worst. Even Socrates stated that the younger generation was going to hell.

World data indicates that the best years in history were the last two years. All you have to do is write your poem for 1933. At that time, my father, one of seven children, with a schoolmarm mother and factory worker/farmhand father, was malnourished, had eye and ear problems, bad teeth, didn't finish high school and had very little job opportunities. Fortunately, he did get two years of the Civil Conservation Corps, a big government despised program that replanted much of the old-growth forests raped by the lumber barons that turned out to be unsuitable for farming in northern Wisconsin.

When World War II came, probably the most perilous time for United States since the Civil War, dad tried to sign up, but couldn't because of his eyes and ears. He married my mother who was 17 at the time, and worked odd jobs. He became a truck driver, a Teamster member and worked (unhappily most of the time for companies that didn't care for their employees, although he loved trucking) until he retired at 62.

I worked until I was 69 and am still healthier than he was, ever. The future is quite bright for young people because there are so many options and so many are no longer discriminated against like the blacks in my father's northern Wisconsin rural community where they were only allowed to be junk collectors and farmhands with little or no prospects except sports.

"What if?" Our country has already gone off the deep end of insanity. To get back some of that sanity is going to take a strong leader, able to turn some heads back on track. Some people say it can't be done. I'm not one of those people.
