Bereavement
Aching void Missing You Angry that you left And yet I knew You'd soon be gone. Disease-- It came too soon And left me empty Left me numb Bereft of something Nameless... Left me dumb I rose up from the ashes, Smiling--not for me But for the children For their need Sorrows deep --all comfort spurned Stirred...sifted...burned Until the lights went out And left me staring in the dark Wordless...hungry...stark This icebound world A lonely mark... Alone I rise...alone I fall And wonder that you've left before the winter's thaw.
