"Don't do it," my mother begged,

to fall back on when
your dreams crash and burn."

I turned to hide a tear in my eye.
Such faith she has in me.

With steely reserve propping
my wounded heart, 
the call of trumpets in my soul,
exploding  hot sauce packets,
loaded  in my wrist dispenser,
I slipped my mask on,
grabbed my yellow cape,
and blew the scene--

The line was long as death's shadow
But I perservered.
At last, I faced the city clerk--
fee in hand.
Clutching my masked avenger permit,
I hurried away;
evil was loose in the streets
and I still needed a hip catch phrase.
