My daughter went from frilly dresses trimmed in lace

To jeans and tennis shoes.

Then high heels, skirts and cell phone

Replaced Teddy Bear and Barbie® too.

Girlfriends, car and personal computer

Were important through high school and college years.

And in January 2005 when a new job took her away

I helped pack her up and shed cold, cold tears.

Today she’s back home but has her eyes on someone else

Engaged to marry the man who stole her heart away.

So with checkbook in hand we run from place to place

For the perfect gown, flowers and cake for her wedding day.

Soon her bedroom will be empty, pristine

And I can move in my things and call it my own.

But memories of Nicole will linger for quite some time

It will take me a while to realize she has a new home.
