Interpretation
The seashell with two perfect holes
looked back at me.
I crushed her in anger.
How dare you be so perfect.
So righteous. No emotions.
I picked that shell from the several
in the swirling waves.
It was waiting for me.
And I betrayed it!
LAKE HAVASU IN RETROSPECT NATIONAL LIBRARY OF POETRY page 454, summer, 1997 (3rd place award)
Like orange lanterns in the western
sky,
As the Dixie Bell slowly cut water
So all could see the 360 degree view.
To the left, a plain California shoreline,
Ahead Bullhead City; to the right
The extended hills of Havasu.
The boat circled the man-made island
And returned us to the London Bridge.
Our hands could have touched,
Our hearts could have renewed.
We didn’t enjoy it together.
You were too busy talking to them.
