The Bitch of the South
A babe cries from hunger, amongst the
riveting sound of gunfire-
Choppers fly overhead; Their only means
of survival-
Five day old death; Another night of suffering;
Every tomorrow appears to hold them in bitter arms
**********
A hot August morning; And dawn came too soon;
She woke within evil; Came ashore long before noon-
Crashed lives and lords; With tragedy and pain-
Slashed; and Bashed and lashed out in vain-
Her name was Katrina; The Bitch of the South;
Spoke with a vengence; Breathed mayhem by mouth-
Vile and disgusting; Her anger she shared-
Spread it like famine; A damn she not cared-
Her pathway was wide; Her footsteps bore down;
She stomped her way through; Town after town-
Gobbled up history; Spit out the rest-
Stole lives; and ripped worlds; Like fragile bird's nests-
Picked up the waters of the southern Gulf Bay;
Left all that she touched; Solemn and gray-
The sounds of Orleans; Shrimpers and Jazz-
Memories of the Blues; Swallowed all it has-
Just up the coast; Her eye she did wink;
Everything gone; With a sudden blink-
Not a tear did she shed; A mighty punch she packed-
She was the Bitch of the South; and she never looked back-
Helpless and hopeless seems all that remains;
Cries from the rooftops; Suffering and pain-
Hunger and Sorrow; Grief and Thirst-
The Bitch will not win; We are Americans First!

Wow. Speechless, as I often am after your writes...and that's a good thing. :) This one is powerful and poignant. We may be down, but we ain't out--the South will rise again! :) Well done!
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
there is so much in our nation and i am sure many others.
Your expression makes what's needed known and reminds all who need
it that the South-land is in necessity and we all need stay with our
fellow mankind,...for as long as it takes and not let them suffer alone and un-aided. these writings are so much necessary. Thanks for sharing this.
Great Write',

Expressed with your usual flair, the emotional aspect brought into the center of the poem. And the title is so appropriate. Good work.
I've missed reading you.
