9/11, Souls-Forward

Looking back,
Yes, it still takes us aback today-
Our minds are somewhere in between the rings-
The rings of silent screams,
The sounds of unknown fear-
All the unheard; Unsaid goodbyes-
All the unseen tears

Apocalyptic spasms of fire and smoke,
ash, filled our hearts and eyes-
We just couldn't reach around the intensity-
Our breaths had been sucked away; Gravity lost-
And we too, fell- Tumbled; Souls-Forward-
Face down.
Our faith exposed like raw nerves-
Left to wonder;
Where do we go from here?

A firestorm of sullen loneliness;
Crowds gathered; Gathered to embrace;
God fearers, prayed-
Those that weren't, prayed as well-
Then came the search- The fading of numbness-
And we got our first glimpse-
Our first glimpse of a mad man's hell-
It appeared just like we felt-
Jumbled; Twisted; and Angry

Emotions spilling over the top-
A flood of innocent blood does now,
and will forevermore stain;
Color who we have become-
Never crossing the lines so boldly marked-
Oh God! It's been five years; And still we fall-
Tumble, souls-forward; Face down-
And one only has to look to know our nerves
are still as exposed today, as they were then-
Where do we go from here?
Still looking back- Souls-Forward-
Eyes upward; Standing Proud

Nicely done and said.
For all its warts, this nation does stand proud.

It is so hard to believe that it has been five years, it seems like yesterday to me and I suppose it always will. It is still difficult for me to understand how there could be people in this world who are filled with so much hate that they could randomly murder so many innocent people, people they never even knew. My life and world changed on that day and I became a vicious wolf watching, listening, sensing, smelling and waiting by the door of my cave ready to pounce on any who ever threatens my home again. I used to be passive, but now, the beast in me has awakened and I will be ready if ever the threat is near. There is no way to forgive the actions of that day, no matter how deeply I reach into my heart. I became a warrior on 09-11-01 and I will remain one until my journey takes me to the next realm. This is a very well written, painfully powerful poem, Lisa.

Take care,

Sherry

"It appeared just like we felt-
Jumbled; Twisted; and Angry" <--- Excellent

Your second verse is especially powerful, Lisa. This poem really causes connection and pause. Excellent work, as always.

It's so very good to read you again.

Hugs,
Tami

You draw us into that day, kicking, screaming, running toward the danger; as much as many would want to forget, we can't. I certainly won't. Powerful yet again, dear (((Lisa))). A stark, necessary reminder, excellently penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
