I recall when thoughts of you

Were hot, like the strongest rays of the sun

Blistering your image

Upon my soul

Once, you seemed so sharp

That within my constrained vision

The very keenness of your knife-edge wit

Left it’s mark upon every molecule of my being

You used to be like a sledgehammer

The, bigger than life, images of you

Being pounded into my heart

And even into my most private dreams

In fact, you were like Merlin

Working your magic

Upon my foolish and tender heart

Showering my thoughts with your magical dust

You worked me with great skill

Like a carnival barker, paying for his habit

By selling overpriced tickets

For a ride on the carousel of life

But now I see through all your magic

And I have grown wise

To your trickery and your appeal

I have shaken your dust from my spirit

I am left with nothing of you

Your imprint upon me was like a cheap wine

Designed to temporarily affect my clarity

But falling short of any enlightening effects

You live within your false pretenses

And you believe yourself to be

The very clothes that you wear

And to possess all the charms that you impose

Look again, into the mirror of reality

If you pause for a moment, the smoky haze will clear

Perhaps then you, like I, will see the buffoon

Who walks life’s path in your shoes

Sherry, I do believe you have his number! It's clear you are calling him on every twitch he has..which sometimes we have to do.
A very precise and cutting piece..I don't know the sound of your voice but I now know how direct it can be!
I liked the control in this one. The straight forward affects. Excellently written!

Sherry you're a gifted poet. I loved your original and totally unique form of expression here and thoroughly enjoyed the way you ended. Thank goodness the haze did clear. You might have become Mrs. Buffoon. ;-/
Well done!

At first I that it a metaphoric tribute to a great love. And then the ironic twist that brought him down like a tall tree to your knees. Frankly, I liked the former better han the bitter end.

Love this, Sherry; it is acute, well-written and strong in both image and metaphor/simile. The person's voice here certainly exhibits both maturity and a developed, robust character. The feelings you express remind me of that old Carly Simon song: "You're So Vain!" - which I have always really liked... mind you, I've always liked Mick Jagger, too! Cool and sassy write, thank you. Sadly, this is something most of us have had to do some time in our lives. A most powerful piece, Sherry.

So you knew a sorcerer too;-) This is fabulous Sherry!
You have such depth of perception to capture the nitty-gritty
of the topic and you express it with lucidity, so that
the message is never blurred!Outstanding poem, Kudo's!
