Copyright to song lyrics are a bugger to obtain unless you are known. I am doing one more final draft on my second novel, "The Backside of Yesterday" and have excised the lyrics and replaced it with my own poem.
Like the rain beating against my windowpane
You never turned to stop to say goodbye
Like roses burning in the sun
You withered away and died
The heart is a hobo
It likes to fish in other ponds and dreams
You bait the hook for those back when they were dumb and now unwilling
Before they have a chance to flee and swim upstream
Why did you put off your leaving?
When staying was the last thing on your mind
Did you ever stop to think about my feelings?
Or am I just being selfish and unkind?
What’s mine is yours
What’s yours is yours
You tell those you prey upon and find
It doesn’t matter if they are saints or whores
As long as they are deaf and blind

It was almost like you were telling a short story of the problems in a person's life and you did it in a few words in a poem, that said it all. It was sad, but oh so true! You need to write a book on poems next!
Soldier's Gap is a non-traditional mystery with literary elements. The high school principal is brutally murdered, but Deputy Sheriff Dave Jenkins's search for meaning and love is a much more significant theme.
