He finds his love lying across the bed, fresh from a nice shower and sleeping blissfully... What should he do?

Poem Artwork

Still warm, skin moist from the shower’s gentle spray,

She lies upon her silken sheets unaware of my presence

As I stand envious, covetous of the bed where she lay,

Her pillow caressing her there in my reluctant absence.

Eyes closed, her mind loose in realms only she can see,

Lips parted as if in anticipation of that enchanted kiss.

O, but I, in my own fantasy, that prince would be me

Offering myself to her and fulfilling her every wish.

She slowly slides her foot across the sleek textured weave,

One leg lax while she draws her other, bent knee high

Enough that I can almost feel, let myself reach, believe,

Draw my hand o’er the glistening satin of her inner thigh.

O stop, beating heart! Stop this insanity before it consumes!

What? Her moan as she slightly turns her head to the side…

Does she bid me come in - tend to her as she blooms?

Or would my advances here be painfully denied?

The hollows accentuate her hips, then her shallow breath

Her hands motionless; arms thrown carelessly upon the bed.

The supple mounds; the blush that kisses her ample breasts

Invoke imaginings that deepen the longings inside my head.

Shall I enter and disturb this creature of beauty as she rests?

Grace lies naked and unencumbered upon her velvet pillow

Adorned with nothing but strands of pearls around her neck,

Her lush hair frames her shoulders – dewy and mellow.

Sleep, my grace, this encounter will be my secret kept.

I shall not disturb you, exquisite blossom, my rose.

Nay, I shall stand watching you as you sleep unaware,

Innocence remains despite her sensual repose,

‘Tis a memory and a blessed dream that we share.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson
