I have positively ID’ed this feeling that appears:
•Terror
•Trauma
•Tragedy
Your treat for being treated is a treaty—
A temporary hold on terror.
I have had my mind contoured, but
Would rather stand than sit idly in a stupor
While you take on stupendous feats.
How can you walk on the tightrope
Above the trampoline
While your rights are being
Trampled by terrifying smiles?
STOP showing me your heart.
I don’t want to be entrusted with an encasement.
STOP telling me you love me.
I don’t friggin’ care,
Or I care, but not AS much as you
As your caring is not real if all you want is change.
STAY 10 feet away from me. Here’s a pole to measure it by.
Mirror, mirror on the wall.
Are you ready to see again all you saw?
How much will I sacrifice?
Sanity? Lifestyle? Goals and dreams?
Even contemplating such a thing is stupid
And insane.
I would rather make models than molds.
Kathy Bates should have the corner on misery, not a significant other
Who turns the frown upside down like Heath Ledger on drugs.
If you uproot my core beliefs,
My base(r instincts) will die.
I am timid and hesitant to move forward now that I see
This twisted reality has gone to feces.
I need to take a s(hit)
Or else I’ll go to pieces
Behind rose-colored gl(asses).
I have had my share of frogs while looking for fish.
I have been wet from the sea
And would not trade it for a stream.
This is driving me to Distraction
From What I Want
And What I Have Received.
It’s a wonder I’ve gotten this far,
But it is time to step away from the bars.
Trust has retreated to an alleyway far.
Is this fate reverted in the twinkling of a star?
This is not the last stop on the train route, is it?
Or am I tortured by desperation to lead a normally dysfunctional life?
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
