More than just numbers
More than just a period
of time
More than just seconds,
minutes and hours
But rather like a picture
or photo unfrozen in the
mind - colors shown in
both good and bad
Both caused me to cry
Not always wanting to
revive the facts
But why is it that the
pleasures are swept
away, while the bad
seem to stay?
Maybe, just maybe if
I keep on crying, the
tears will wash away
another 26 years...
I have found that a few tears or a "good cry" doesn't chase away the years of bad memories....It's best to smile, think positive and just move forward and onward to the future.
There is nothing wrong with crying, it's soothing and it refreshes
the soul. Keep and build on all that is good. Use the bad as a road map to watch out for those sharp turns and winding curves.
Years from now you can look back and say, you did something good and right.
This is a fabulous poem! I am going to track your work! I love your style. I am going to guess that 26 years represents the number of years of a love relationship with your wife? or does 26 represent a 26 year old's birthday? Perhaps you are reflecting on your relationship with the person, as you say, Not always wanting to
revive the facts
But why is it that the
pleasures are swept
away, while the bad
seem to stay?
This is a very intriguing poem, and I absolutely love photo that goes with it! Very moving!
Well, Lance! Bad memories aren't suppose to stay. If you have something happy that happened to your life in the past, hold on to those happiness and forget the rest. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT!!! So I hope you don't either. I'm having a good life. Have great hubby and several great kids. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY LIFE, so I hope you don't either!!!
Thank you for all your reviews and comments to my work, they are greatly appreciated!!!
Oh my Lance, that's no way to spend your next 25 years! I hope and pray your future holds some unexpected happiness that will change your outlook! We all have those bad/sad memories, but we can't let them linger.Make new and better memories!
This is painful to read...yes once that DEEPER pain strikes...good memories are hard to "hi-light" as GOOD ones...they all seems to have a bad odour in some way!!
That question has bothered me many times during these past years, Lance...I, too, wondered why the bad, the terrible, dominates my memories, but little by little the better things come to mind as though shy little elves who brave the world of giants...still I cry...but it does seem to get better.
You wrote a wonderful piece about this phenomenon and by posting it, you made me feel less peculiarly alone.
Awww, this one is sad ... and very well penned. Math, however, is not my strongest subject; allergic. Break out in numbers (see? Twenty six.) Excellent, Lance.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!

This was a wonderfully written poem, but quite heartbreaking. What is the significance of 26 years?
