. . . be yourself!

Poem Artwork

My external covering was changing

to parchment - matter of factly I

took to writing my last will and

testatment upon it; but made the

mistake of going out in a thunderstorm

and the whole thing went down the drain.

Then I considered doing a self-portrait

called Dorian Gray, so I grabbed my

palette and brush - the only problem

was, I had forgotten my numbers, and

besides, I didn't want that stigma of

being discredited by society.

The next thing that came to mind was

to do the wolfish thing including dressing

up as a lamb, then no one would notice

my presence - then I remembered the

fable's lesson, "Frauds and liars are

always discovered."

I thought for a while and decided to

throw on a suit of armor - that would

be the best protective cover, but then

again I wasn't into Gothic; thinking

out loud I said, "I need to be who I

am and a lot less transparent!"

Life, circumstances, and issues tend to knock us for a loop. Sometimes we get banged up pretty bad. How wonderful to know tha we can get up and keep going by getting a tough gator skin or a suit of armor. It is when we truly be ourselves that we find strength we never knew we had. Thanks for sharing this inspiring write.
