'The rain and wind began picking up momentum . . . '

Poem Artwork

Cast in subdued light

Like painful memories

that haunt you at night

a storm of significance

began rolling in – would

deafen with fright . . .

As the passengers of

Flight 754 boarded in

a rather  disorderly way

the captain told his crew

to make ready – as they

needed to leave . . .

Just as an attendant closed

The plane’s door which was

more  like battening down the

hatches – claps of thunder

approached hell-bent on a

mission of non-mercy . . .

The rain and wind began

Picking up momentum as they

galloped across the runway like

the Four Horsemen – the jet

aircraft took off with the storm

in tortuous pursuit . . .

Reaching cruising altitude in

A matter of minutes was of no

relief to passengers nor the crew

for the thunder and lightning took

control of Flight 754 – sent it on

a new course . . .

Half-an-hour into the flight a

Strange occurrence began to

take place – the jet started to

change into a 727 from the 60’s

and everyone on board were now

forty years younger . . .

Passengers pre-forty no longer

Existed – the pilot was now in his

twenty’s  and most of the crew just

faded away while looks of horror

were written all over the faces of

those who remained . . .

The pilot had few options – knew he

Had to get the jet back to its’ original

point of departure – by logical reasoning

the next change would take place in thirty

minutes and the aircraft would be a ‘Tin

Goose’ from 1920 . . .

Much to the captain’s disdain the storm

Had other plans as it took hold of the 727’s

tail and it lost all radio contact – pieces of the

‘Flying Washboard’ were scattered near and

far but no passenger remains were found for

none were born . . .

Bob, you are too cool with these writes...are you related to or a reincarnation of A.Hitchcock as well as the guy that did the Twilight Zone...that would be quite a combination...Ed

You are now in the Twilight Zone. That's a fantastic photo, and sure looks like a time warp to me. I especially like the verse where the storm is "in tortuous pursuit." A vivid picture in that verse!

Now you see why I do not fly? I would though, ride if guaranteed to age-backwards, then I would parachute off the plane, and my young body would land safely! If I parachuted from a plane at my age now...my bones would most likely break on landing. LOL
This well written imaginative work of words...could have only come from you!

My goodness, running a pretty close parallel to Stephan King's "The Langoliers" when all but save seven or eight remained on board. A true mind tingler as your talents expand to new horizons, BRAVO....

Be always safe,
Karen

On what have you been dining my friend? :-) Seriously, I love it when poetry gets carried away as this writing certainly did. Great work, Lance.
