Solitude


The lake’s smooth surface,
Is unbroken by the worries of the world,
Calm and soothing,
It flows softly,
From the waterfall into gentle pools,
That bubble laughingly at my feet…

Dragon flies swoop and dive,
Like miniature Red Barons,
In a World War I movie,
Now and then seized,
In the open mouth,
Of a rainbow trout…

It’s another world here,
One I have always loved,
The earth as it was meant to be,
Quiet and beautiful,

Life thrives here,
Like the tiny blue flower,
Growing alone in a field of weeds,
Watered by the morning dew,
And admired by me,
As I sit here watching it grow;

Marveling at its endurance and strength,
Its solitude and beauty,
Its determination to survive,

But what struck me the deepest,
Was its lack of fear,
At being alone…
