Aren’t You Just A Dream?

He said,
Tell me you love me,
And I understood,
It wasn’t words he wanted to hear,
Not at all…

It was a touch he wanted,
Me reaching out,
Feeling if he was real,
If I was,

But we weren’t,
I was dreaming,
And in the dream,
He was standing there,
Staring at me,
With love in his eyes,
Whispering for me to kiss him quick,
Before I woke up,
And he disappeared…

I reached out,
Felt his face,
The stubble on his chin,
Pricking my fingers,
Then my lips…

And I said,
“But aren’t you just a dream?”
And he answered me with another kiss,
And said;
“How can you believe I am not real?”

I felt the cool mist settle on my arms,
Wetting my hair with the night dew,
Felt my lips tingling where he kissed them,
Felt my heart beating so fast,

And I said;
“Because when I wake up,
You aren’t there…
And my heart is so empty,
My eyes so cold,
My mind so numb…”

Then he took my hand,
And placed it on his heart,
And I felt it beating beneath my fingers,
Felt his warmth beneath his shirt,
And I knew;

Our love was real.

And Retta, the most important part...the love....is what's real. Perhaps one day the person will join the love and thereby complete the circle. Well done!

Retta,
Without dreams, we would miss so much enjoyment in life. They seem to make our life worth living, when there seems to be nothing else.
Awesome write.

Another beautiful work from your lovely heart! This poem had me thinking about a dream I once had and that still haunts me to this day. I feel as if I am always searching for that connection...the soul mate connection. I wish you all the beauty that life is and may love always be such inspiration for you. Thanks
