Waiting…

I became aware today,
That I am waiting,
Sitting in the corner staring out the window,
Looking around at life,
Waiting…

I watched the sun rise this morning,
Saw the eagle lift his heavy wings and take flight,
The coyote came by to say hello,
But he saw I wasn’t really here,
And padded softly away…

I was waiting.

I went outside in the falling snow,
Watched it land on my arms,
Then fall to the ground in its quiet way,
Looking to the east,
I saw a shadow on the horizon,

Black and ominous,
And I smiled.
So it comes now,
This storm building and blustering,
Trying to frighten me with its power…

But I am calm inside,
Filled with memories of another time,
It cannot touch me.
I know who I am now,

My ancestors once danced to Gods,
Seeking to appease their wrath,
But it is a new era now.

Science has replaced our myths,
And the wise among us,
Have discovered your secrets,
Knowledge has replaced fear,
And I am well armed.

So come if you must,
Do your best.
I am waiting…

It cannot touch me.
I know who I am.
What a wonderful line. I think there are many who have no clue of who they really are and the world is a very frightening place for them.

Well done, my friend.

If we discover nothing else in life, I hope we realize that we are invinceable unless we decide to give up. I hope someday we can all be strong enough to tell the forces of ill and evil "I am well armed so come if you must, do your best, I am waiting" Excellent writing

You, Dear Poet, are unique among us, so naturally, your work has a different tone and deepness that few of us understand, much less able to match. Like Scarlett O'Hara, I can see you shaking your fist at that damn storm - daring it to come near you! - Bill

Oh, boy, Retta, this poem has the tone I dearly love, steadfastness and willing to tak on what is on the horizon, and told in something that to me sounded faintly loke Poe. Yes! This is one of your better ones, and THAT is saying a lot.
