Remembering You…

At Dawn,
The sun rises,
And my eyes are captured,
By the beauty of the falling moon,
My night ending,
The day beginning,
And I struggle to ease my gloom…

Walking in these woods,
With the rain gently falling,
I feel such peace,
Suspended in the air,
Wrapping its soft arms around me,
Making me aware,
That life goes on,
The moon still rises,
My heart still beats,
Though softer now…

I touch the rain that is captured in a leaf,
And spill its warmth into my hand,
Watching as it beads up and drops softly
To the ground…

I think of you,
And smile,
Remembering how much,
You loved these woods,
How often we played here as children,
Hiding and finding each other…

It comes to me then,
In an epiphany,
That’s what I am doing now,
Seeking you…

Looking behind the trees and bushes,
Wondering where you are hiding,
I call out to you,
“Allie allies all come in free!”
But you won’t come in,
Will you…?

Please stop hiding,
Its time to go home now,
It’s getting dark,
And mom will be mad…

I walk in these woods,
And become a child again,
Holding your hand,
As we walk along…

But when I reach home,
I am alone.

So beautifully written a feeling of wistful longing for the past with a different outcome back then, alas, it can't be changed from our present position, but is forever etched in time as it truly was.
