Indifference I elicit no response Neither good nor bad Nothing of importance to you Nothing of consequence? Not a smile, not a sneer Not even a look of apathetic disconnectedness? How dare you! Open your eyes, I am here. I am here. I will not let your ignorance Supersede my presence. I will not let your coldness Freeze my spirit. I will not let your disinterest Replace any part of me. I can defeat you I will defeat you. Go about your nonexistence, I choose life. Sink into triviality, I will sing. Show no sign of remorse, and I will laugh. I know the antidote to your irrelevance It's the one thing you cannot live without. In your silent anger did you not know The opposite of despair is not silence? The opposite of despair...is love.

Once again Ed Phillips generates originality, complexity, and style in his writing. This is a very worthy poem from a fresh source. He is at his best when writing about the heart and soul.
