The Winds that Blow
There was a time
Not long ago
The world was young
The winds would blow
When we could feel
Love’s afterglow—
But through it all
How could we know
We’d lose our way
In the undertow…
With just one step let’s turn back time
Relive our past repeat our rhyme
When love’s silvery beams
Carried all of our dreams
And caressed our faces so.
Back to those golden days
When our hearts were alive
And they beat in phase
With each surge survive
And we knew our love would grow.
Now the wind just howls
And the songs have scowls
And our days are filled
With discordant vows
And the rainfalls overflow.
Where did we go wrong
No hint of love
No playful song or velvet glove
The days recede and drag along
And love is scattered to and fro…
All gone with
The winds that blow.
At times like these (global coronavirus crisis) when our lives have been turned upside down, nostalgia stimulates memories of the "freedom to be free" times, and, when we didn't have to "earn" our love - we're loved unconditionally, and... not only in this remarkable poem's lines.
It is, really, fascinating how we can look back on an experience in a past, and pick and choose, the "things" we did idealise on occasion...
Longing to return to "the good' ol days" has always been a part of poet 's inspiration. Love it!
Best wishes from Kay.
