What Happened to the Family?

It used to be a happy home with laughter everywhere.
Now I stare at empty walls and silence beyond compare.
There was a time when we stood as one,
Now all we do is fuss, fight, and destroy the common bond.
                       What Happened to the family?

What happened to the family when what was said stayed
                                     within the house.
Now it is shouted from the rooftop and spread from mouth to mouth.
 What happened to the family, is ringing within my soul.
I’m trying so hard to understand those stories grandmother told.

What happened to the family when the husband took the lead.
He provided for his home and mentored to such a degree.
The wife stood in submission and carried out her part.
The children honored their parents and cherished them from the start.

What happened to then family that has caused the man to leave?
Wandering in a world of sin because he decided not to cleave.
The woman now raising the children and struggling from day to day.
The children speaking out in defiance and don’t care about what they say..
           What Happened to the Family?

What happened to the family did we move God out of the way.
Did we get so educated that we forgot just how to pray?
Did we forget about the vows we made to God and then our spouse?
Did we let down our guards and allow other things to sprout??
