A write I had started years ago caught my attention this morning. The following is the delayed completion of that write.

ANCIENT TEARS

Tears left salty tracks upon her youthful face,
But they are now long gone with not a visible trace.
Antique tears driven by her ancient fears of the day,
Childhood worries that now seem silly and far away.

Tears were shed when she skinned her little girl knees,
And with a tender heart, childish taunts or a tease
Could cause those wet and salty streams to race
Down the often blushed cheeks of her youthful face.

Tears commonly flowed when her daddy was not around,
But they dried quickly when she heard the sound
Of his voice calling out her name to come outside to play,
Out in the warm and brilliant sunshine of a long ago day.

Long gone are the ancient droplets from her childhood days,
Replaced with modern tears flowing on her antique face.
Tears now flow from dealing with seemingly endless strife,
And from cries of grief shed at the end of a loved one’s life.

Tears of joy also regularly flow when her heart receives a tug,
Like the tender caress of a grandchild’s warming hug,
And memories brought about by a memory of an earlier time
When the future was just another staircase yet to climb.

And within her body, her antiquated heart’s own cage,
Are the unseen tears while quietly resisting her old age.

Great poem, nostalgic and heart felt, Wanda,
Tears of joy and tears of pain have dribbled down all of our cheeks.
Thank you for this vivid poignant reminder of life.
Continued success-
