November's Tryst

I remember
November’s tryst -
A brief precious eternity.
You were here
And all that mattered.
It was idyllic.
I mocked the moan of wind,
The lashes of rain
On the window pane,
Welcoming winter.
I grasped
The promise of you,
The assurance of your warmth.
In my arms
As I held you
I basked in your enchanting aura.
In that golden time
On the other side of never,
On the edge of forever,
It was all I needed.
But the intenseness,
Like that of a sudden summer storm,
Was switfly spent and squandered;
And much too soon
All that was left
Was whine of wind
And rush of rain,
And a lover’s whispered sigh...

After the tang of the falling fall colored leaves, comes November - stil in it's glory of those leaves, and Thanksgiving time and glad for it. A time of healing it seems , and I can feel it coming with this reading of this poem. you will heal and go on, Regis. to another November Month.

This is so beautiful and so emotional. Flows really well too, which is important. One of your best I think. You definitely need to put a book together of non-limerick poems.

Just a little thing I noticed - your Copyright line is too tiny (size-wise). Again it is probably the AD editor going bonkers but I thought I'd let you know. You might have the size fine on your end but it's not on mine.

Very nice. November's always been a favorite month of mine - it is honest in its bare display; all inhibitions shed. It has its own special charm; it is a time of revelation and all at once a time of withdrawal.

I've enjoyed your romantic interpretation.

Regis, this is powerful. I made the mistake of reading the many comments and lost my reaction...a brief interlude on a winter's night? But, no...the lover's sigh expresses only the regret of having spent the passion too quickly...with no hope for an encore?

I would not call this bitter sweet.

Excellent writing!

I hope this is true, because if it is, it is so bittersweet that even I would have loved to live it. On the other hand, if you didn't experience it, it is just another example of your brilliant writing when it comes to love.

Both November and the slipperiness of the quick-silvered tryst are captured eloquently and elegantly in your lovely words and phrasing here, Regis. I particularly like

On the other side of never,
On the edge of forever

... such echoing and counterbalanced thoughts are balanced as if on a pinhead/knife-edge in eternity's timeframe and in the lovers' momentarily combined experience. Haunting and beautiful. xx

Send me a basket full of your November trysts Regis. If they can inspire me as this one did you, I will write 'til the pen and paper cease to be. It is only the "swiftly spent and squandered" that concerns me. Your last line is like sealing a letter with a kiss, perfect. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

Love on the edge. You started this well and then with the expert hand of the poet, you turned this all around. It is like the dream where the boy and girl are out and having a wonderful time, and just as they are bout to kiss the girl wakes up. She is disapppointed, alone, and no boy. Thank you for sharing this November Tryst.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Sometimes I think it is best when we stay together for only as long as the intense passion rages then leave before the mood changes to indifference...perhaps that is truly what a tryst is and perhaps it leaves us with the best memories of loving. Beautiful poem, offered up from the heart and served with a side of bittersweet.
