Winter’s Stay

Winter came to stay
The day you went away

Now its icy fingers
Grasp my fainting heart
Its frosty breath
Chills my emotions
Giving life to despair

This cursed winter is relentless

Though the sun may shine
It gives no heat, no comfort

The trees remain leafless
The flowers dormant
The birds silent

And though I hear your song
From underneath the ice
I cannot make out your words
And barely see your face

As darkness falls once more
Only one set of footfalls echoes
Down the empty streets of my dreams
Leading to the unknown

I don't want to remember this past winter; it may have been quite cold but I was in the hospital throughout it all, a memory I don't want...(sorry Regis, I don't know how I missed all these of ur writes, but I will endeavor to keep up in the future...peace, dude)

I know you are still hurting after rejection and loss. It does make you want to stay in winter and not come out of your den. But things maybe will be come better in the future....I wish only the best for you.

Such a powerful poem, dear Regis! I feel in the throes of summer after a warm and blissful two weeks away, but this takes me to the polar extremes of those emotions that are warm and feeling yet are met with emptiness and despair. So sad but so well done. Bless you. xx

Heartbreaking poetry that is very expressive and well written. I can only assume that you are going through a very tough time. The only thing I can compare it to is when my first wife died. I spend many a night in drinking the hours away. Then at a prayer group the leader asked me to pray for all the qualities I wanted in a new woman. I wrote them down and we prayed over it. Then, ten days later a miracle happened. A blonde nurse and I became very attracted to one another. The honeymoon continues after 27 yrs. I pray the same for you bro.
Peace, love and happiness, Amen

The stanza beginning, "And though I hear....." is such an effectively gasping image that it carries the whole poem, Regis. Magnificent four lines!! Haunting. ~~ Diana

Yes, indeed, it was a winter to remember;
so glad we have gotten rid of it,
and there is hope for a great summer!

A very emotional poem Regis. It hurts to loose a loved one but the wound gets better in time. If someone had told me six years ago that I would ever get over the death of my mum, I would have told them NO! But with time I learned to cherish the good moments we had and the pain in my heart ceased. You will get through whatever you are going through Regis. Lots of hugs.

Regis, you are so good with the poetic
words/metaphor...blistering cold Winter's
chill filled the lifeless space...matched
only...by words of love...that left...without
giving the choice...and it hurts.

Easy to mask the physical pain with medicine
but...if one's in emotional pain...sad...and
sorry...all it's left...is trying with vast
effort to...talk oneself out of this psychological
malaise...trust what one has begun to observe
and understand...wait till the pain recedes
replaced by welcome...numbness...first...then
slowly...it turns into a sensitive and great poem
...telling the story...pointedly to those who need
to hear it...that's all of us...
Thank you Regis, for sharing your verse.

AHHH THE SEASONS OF LIFE! THE FIRE OF IT IS...GRAND. BUT THE FRIGIDNESS OF IT SOMETIMES LEAVE US WITH THE FALSE ILLUSION THAT 'WINTER' WILL NEVER LEAVE. HOWEVER, TIME AND TIME AGAIN ITS BEEN PROVEN THAT WINTER'S COLD 'CANNOT' ENDURE THE 'WARMTH' OF SPRING...NOR THE 'HEAT' OF SUMMER. SO THEN, IT'S BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST...THAN NEVER TO HAVE LOVED AT ALL...YES? METAPHORICALLY OR REALISTICALLY...GREAT IMAGERY HERE, REGIS AND THE FROZEN ROSE 'ICES' THIS SHARING PERFECTLY. THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

B-r-r-r-r. I am glad I have found a way to always let the sun shine into my life. Empty desolation is not a place I can allow my spirit to reside.

You have woven two meanings of "cold" here so very well. Yes, all seems bleak, bare, and cold when the one you love goes away. It's like they take the joy of life with them...............and they don't even care! That's the hell of it.

Love ya!

A very lovely way to juxtapose two different meaning about the cold and ice and the chill of winters blast even encompassing the bare branches of the trees to the barest of a love gone. Thoroughly enjoy this one.
