I Looked for You *I looked for you in the wadi* *I looked for you by the banyan tree* *I felt your presence* *But you did not appear* *I looked for you by the sea* *And a mermaid came and told me* *She knows where you are* *Gave me hope somehow* *I looked for you in the sky* *I saw a dove fly* *She told me she knows* *Where I can find you* *I looked for you in the meadow* *Lovely flowers bowed their heads in the breeze* *Nodded when I asked about you* *I felt comforted* *I looked for you in the desert* *Up and down the massive dunes* *The wind came and whispered* *That he knows where you breathe* *The moon rose in the stars-sprinkled sky* *She whispered to me* *That she knows you are well* *I felt relieved* *I fell asleep on a mossy covering of forest floor* *I dreamed of you* *I awoke to the songs of birds* *All telling me that they know where you are* *A butterfly alit nearby on a lovely wild flower* *I thought of you* *I thought of me* *Please butterfly* *May you tell my love* *Tell her all* © Régis Auffray
